FLORIDA WORKER COMP RATES DECLINE . . . BUT SO DO WORK COMP BENEFITS
The press release states that Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink "cheered" the news that Florida's employers get a sixth consecutive decline in workers' compensation rates. Meanwhile, many Florida workers injured in a work comp accident cry and worry and struggle to get the little benefits allowable to them under the Florida Workers' Compensation law.
Maybe our elected officials should "cheer" when law are changed to help the individual and not the corporations. Maybe our elected officials should "cheer" the workers' compensation attorneys on as we battle to get the recommended treatment for our injured client or the wage benefits that the insurance company refuses to pay. Maybe our elected officials should "cheer" when the workers' compensation does what it is supposed to do--get the injured worker the best medical care to get them back to work the quickest. No, it's just easier to cheer when the little guy gets screwed and corporations win!
Talk to most people on workers' compensation. You will hear how they have to battle to see the doctor just so they can go back to work. You will hear how the work comp carrier often delays in getting them their wage checks. You will hear about how hard and costly it is for them to go through the system--a system that is supposed to be self-executing. Unfortunately, most Floridians don't want to hear that or cannot hear it because of all the cheering!!
If you have a Florida workers' compensation claim, you need to talk to an attorney to understand your rights and responsibilities. Sadly, the work comp system stinks in Florida. Injured workers need attorneys to battle the work comp carrier for the simplest of benefits.
