FLORIDA WORKERS' COMP SYSTEM HEALTHY?

Who Are They Talking To??

Any worker injured in Florida knows that the Florida workers' compensation system is horrible! Nevertheless, the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation released a review of the state's workers' compensation insurance and found the system in good shape.

In good shape? Tell that to the 25-year old son that I just spoke with whose father died in a workers' compensation accident and because he has no surviving spouse and the kids are older, the workers' compensation carrier doesn't have to pay a penny to the kids.

In good shape? Tell that to the client I represent who needs surgery to avoid the paralysis, but the workers' compensation carrier is denying the surgery despite their own doctor saying it is related.

In good shape? Tell that to the single mother who got hurt at work and now has to fight to get her wages while she is being evicted and having her car repossessed.

The Florida Workers' Compensation system is in good shape for one party--the insurance companies. The injured workers aren't getting benefits. Good employers are not getting their good employees back after a work injury. Good doctors are getting out of the system because of the horrible fee schedule imposed upon them.

Wake up, Florida Office of Insurance Regulation! Talk to the people that matter--the Joe Plumber and Adam Assembler who work every day until they get hurt and then treated like garbage. Sure, there are some bad apples that file bogus workers' compensation claims (and there are some work comp companies that provide workers' compensation benefits on a timely basis with battling), but for the most part, from my view here in the trenches, Florida's workers' compensation insurance is far from in good shape.
