Where There Is Despair In Life, Let Me Bring Hope
People ask me why I decided to become a personal injury attorney. A personal injury attorney is just above used car salesman and the likability chart. Personal injury attorneys are called names such as “ambulance chaser” and accused of increased insurance premiums and filing too many lawsuits. So, why do I love what I do? I was reminded why as I put my little boy to sleep.
Every night when I put my little boy to sleep, I sing him my late Mom’s favorite song, The Prayer of St. Francis. In that song reminds me why I am proud to be a personal injury attorney. Two special lines of the song are “Where there is despair in life, let me bring hope” and “Where there is darkness, [let me bring] only light.”
That is my role as a personal injury attorney–to bring hope and light to those injured because a Florida car accident or work injury. After being seriously injured, they typical person doesn’t know where to go or what to do. They are, in essence, in the dark and need guidance from someone who will show them the right way. Also, serious injuries from an automobile accident can cause great despair and uncertainty–Am I ever going to feel better? How am I going to pay my medical bills? If I cannot work, how will I pay my bills? These questions and so many more can plague an injured person’s mind and prevents him or her from focusing on getting better.
In Florida’s workers’ compensation system, there is so much despair and darkness. Right now, I have a client having to live in a tent with his three boys because his work comp injury prevents him returning to work and the benefits under the work comp system are simply not enough to pay for food, gas, and rent. Like many, he was living paycheck to paycheck before getting hurt. After his injury, those paychecks were replaced (for a short time) with reduced work comp “benefits”. My staff and I are presently trying to give his father hope that he will be able to move his family out of the tent into a home again.
So, that is why I am proud to be a personal injury attorney. I (and many other personal injury attorneys) don’t chase ambulance. I (and many other personal injury lawyers) do not file unnecessary lawsuits. And the insurance companies’ greed is what caused the insurance premiums to increase.
OK, now I am off my soapbox
