Turning left at an intersection could result in a deadly car accident. Sadly, that is what recently happened in St. Petersburg, Florida.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Jose Fernandez, 29, of St. Petersburg was driving his blue Kia Spectra north on Fourth Street when a black Dodge Ram struck the front left of his car, police said. Police said truck was traveling southbound and trying to turn left on 41st Avenue N. Unfortunately, Mr. Fernandez died on the scene, police said. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Fernandez family.
This tragedy reminds us that all drivers need to be especially careful when turning left in front of oncoming traffic. A driver should never assume he or she can make it, but rather wait until there is clearly enough time and room to safely maneuver the turn. A few extra seconds or minutes could save a life.
Drive safely and watch out for those who don’t.
